Schedule of Events for Paddlefest Weekend 2013 

Thursday, June 20

Paddlefest Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo at Coney Island Park, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. 

Kids Expo is the largest environmental, nature and water safety education event for children in the Midwest and 2011 first place award winner of the OPRA (Ohio Parks and Recreation) Award for Excellence in Environmental Programs.

The Kids Outdoor Adventure Expo is free and open to the public. It is open to summer camps, individuals, summer school programs and organized groups. Kids of all ages will be able to take a boat ride on the Ohio River on the Queen City Clipper, paddle a raft on Lake Como, learn how to cast and catch fish, pet farm animals,  learn safe biking and how to camp outdoors, learn yoga, see all kinds of cool animals,  learn about water safety, nutrition, renewable energy and wildlife of the Ohio River Basin. More than 50 interactive exhibits and activities.

Friday, June 21
Ohio River Music & Outdoor Festival at Coney Island Park, 5:00 p.m.-11:30 pm.Fun for the whole family on the banks of the Ohio.

10 a.m.- 9 p.m.: Boat drop off and registration open for all Pedalfest events, 8.2-mile float trip, 5 mile SUP Race & 11 mile canoe and kayak races and the Kayak Fishing Tournament. (Fee for parking is $6.00 for two days or $4.00 for one day at Coney Island.)

Lake Como Activities

12 Noon – 5 p.m.: Boat demos – try out a new boat on Lake Como

Paddling Classes with Jim Lawhead of Lake Erie Paddler

3:00 pm – SUP Paddling Techniques
4:00 pm  -SUP Yoga
5:00 pm – Paddle Fit Challenge

Land Classes with Lynn Frock – “Things you need to know before you get on the water.” (takes place in Picnic Grove area in grass near Lost River Shelter 3)

3:00  pm  - 5:00 pm Learn kayak paddling basics (classes begin on the hour)

Kentucky Thoroughbreasts Dragonfest

4:00 – 7:00 pm – Dragon boat races on Lake Como

Noon- 9 p.m.: Basket Raffle 

6-9 p.m.: Northern Kentucky Fly Fishers Kayak Fishing Tournament on the Ohio River. Awards ceremony following final weigh-in at 8:15 p.m.

Noon-9 p.m.: Gearfest begins

5-9 p.m.: Gear Swap (Bikes, boats and outdoor equipment welcome!)

5-11 p.m.: “Roots on the River” Music Festival featuring live music on the WNKU Band stage:

  • Jake Speed & the Freddies
  • Wheels
  • Jeremy Pinnell & the 55′s 
  • The Lewis Brothers
  • Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band – HEADLINER

9 p.m.: Registration and boat drop-off closes.

Midnight: Festival ends

Saturday, June 22, 2013
Paddle the Ohio & the Finish Line Festival presented by Gold Star Chili at Yeatman’s Cove - 6:30 a.m.-2:30  p.m.

Join 2,000 adults, children  and dogs for  America’s largest paddling event!

6:30 am.: Pedalfest registration opens at Yeatman’s Cove for all pedal & paddlers. 

6:30-9 a.m.: Paddler registration and boat drop-off at Coney Island (6201 Kellogg Ave.,Cincinnati).

6:45 a.m.: Mandatory racer meeting.

7:00 a.m.: Pedalfest “Pedal/Paddle” ride begins

7:15 a.m.: Races begin

7:45-9:00 a.m.: Paddler put-in – 8.2-Mile Float Trip (Rental boats must be picked up by 8:15 am; Final boat leaves at 9:15 am )

8:00 a.m.: Pedalfest group ride begins (19.5 miles)

9:30-10:30 a.m.: Paddler Pit Stop at Schmidt Field – restrooms & drinking water available.

10:00-11:00 am.: The Greater Cincinnati Dance Alliance’s Global Water Dance, a collaboration of dancers, musicians, artists, and the environmental community, Serpentine Wall lower level.

10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m: Finish Line Festival at Yeatman’s Cove – Live music by local band Hickory Robot, exhibitors, bike demos, refreshments and more.

 11:15 a.m.: Racer awards presentations.

12:15 p.m.: Boat/Bike raffle drawing in front of band tent

2:30 p.m.: Bike Valet closes

2:45 p.m.: Last shuttle bus leaves Public Landing  for Coney Island.
